AVONDALE – The hallways of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy (TJCA) buzzed with excitement and anticipation on Wednesday, August 14, as students returned to class just in time to mark the 25th anniversary of the school. The school originally opened for the first day of classes on Aug. 23, 1999, and August 23, 2024 completes a quarter century of the school’s dedication to classical education.
TJCA Executive Director and High School Principal Jason Cole expressed his enthusiasm for the year ahead. "It's incredible to think that we've reached our 25th anniversary,” said Cole. “This milestone is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of everyone involved in our community—past and present. The energy on campus today was infectious, and I couldn't be more proud of how our students and staff have started the year."
The first day of school was marked by smooth transitions and eager learners, setting a positive tone for the months ahead. Jodi Isaacs, associate executive director and middle school principal, reflected on the excitement shared by both students and staff.
"There’s something truly special about the first day of school, especially when you’re kicking off a year as significant as this one,” said Isaacs. “The students came in with bright smiles and a readiness to learn, and our staff has done an outstanding job preparing for this moment. We’re ready to make this year our best yet."
At the Grammar School, the younger students were met with warmth and encouragement as they embarked on their educational journey. Grammar School Principal Kristilee Newton emphasized the importance of a strong start.
"Our teachers and staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that our students feel welcomed and supported as they begin this new school year,” said Newton. “It was wonderful to see our classrooms filled with excitement and curiosity. We’re all looking forward to a year of growth, learning, and building lasting memories."
To help kick off the new school year at the Grammar School, local dignitaries warmly welcomed our students as they arrived, offering their best wishes for an amazing year ahead. Those dignitaries included Forest City Mayor Steve Holland; Rutherfordton Mayor Jimmy Dancy; Spindale Mayor Mickey Bland; Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cindy Cobb; Spindale Fire Chief Jamie Guillermo; Isothermal Community College Director of Marketing and Community Relations Mike Gavin; and Corporal Garry Ankrom of the Forest City Police Department.
As TJCA embarks on its 25th year, the entire school community is committed to continuing its tradition of excellence in education.
